Taxi Logbook - 07/02/2012
Today we looked at a short scene that involved emilen when he didn't get his drivers license. It also has the first appearance of petra. We did a different version of emilen theme, I had to play the vocoda. I found this not to difficult but I haven't really had to play an instrument in a long time. I don't know when to come in and things like that. Being on this process I haven't actually sing yet and I think it is good to get me playing on instruments again because I have got very rusty. We managed to put together a piece for this scene. We also came up with petra's theme. Kane plays a thing on the guitar, I think it sounds really nice and fits really well hat is happening in the scene. I thin we worked well Today and have coped with not having everyone in the group. We do find t hard to come up with ideas like after we have one idea we can't think of another. Which isn't good when we have to put the show out soon. I also got to play a bit of percussion but that wasn't for very long and I wasn't very good. :/

We have all been put into 3 smaller groups because before when we were in just 2 groups a lot of the musicians couldn't do much or play their instrument because there wasn't enough equipment for everyone to play. Or for example in my original group we had 2 bassists which left one of them not really being able to join in with the group. So we all get to help with coming up with ideas now we are in these smaller groups.
I find for me doing this show is challenging because it is completely out of my comfort zone, i am no strrong with composing and getting things to fit togther for film. I think at the moment i have taken a back seat for this show because im too shy to give any ideas that i might have (not that i have had many) I think this is something i am going to have to work on over the course of the show, especially when they start adding vocals.
Today we watched the scenes we are going to be doing, we have been given one of the biggest car chase scenes in the film and Dave and Tom suggested we do a sort of drum and bass thing to go with it. We were shown a song by Bjork which as a really good drum and bassy ending that was used as our starting point to think of wha we could do. Dave said we should have a jam and see what comes from it. I think what the group came up with was really good, i didn't really take part until near the end when Dave put me on this synthesizer thing to try stuff out. I found this hard and i got shy to try anything in case it sounded wrong, i think this is what is holding me back. I is something that i need to work on otherwise i will not get the skills i want from this show.
Also today because everyone was switching what instruments, so they put me on the electric kit and i had to play off what Justin was playing. I haven't played drums for about 2 years so i think i was a bit sloow to start. Im not sure if what i was doing really fit with what we were doing but i tried my best to think of things to fit into the music. I think as a group we worked well playing off each other and we came up with some really good ideas for the chase scene. We now have to sort out all the different sections.
India's Freshers Logbook
I feel the show itself went really well, I think we all performed really well. There lots of bumps along the way, with only three and a half weeks to put together a show. I felt at first we all didn’t really work too hard thinking we had plenty of time until the first performance, I felt we all weren’t that motivated when put in a room on our own. When we were working with Marc we would all work and try hard because I felt that there was a bit more pressure with him telling us we didn’t have time just to sit about and wait for him to help us. I felt that all of the groups did get on well together and we did work well together, one group in particular was the group that did Promises by Nero because we were put in a room by ourselves and we worked hard to get the song perfect, we went through the song section by section until we all knew what we were doing because we were so focused we got the song finished and ready to put on the stage that day. I think this show that when we are actually 100% focused we can get the work down so much more quickly than we actually did. If we had worked like this all the time I think we could have done a lot more songs than we actually did on the night. I feel also with the whole group we had problems with communication, ones that should be left outside of us rehearsing, I felt it affected the group dynamic and how we used our rehearsal time. I think my personal strengths were that I feel I made sure I knew my parts, such as learning lyrics, I also helped with people learning harmonies too in the songs I was in. I think this helped with learning the song because hopefully it gave other people motivation if other people were learning their parts. I feel I let my personal problems outside of college affect the way I worked, I think it slowed me and the group down because I was letting unimportant things affect me. I now know that I should not let this affect my work because that was the most important thing. I also think I should have let my fear of looking stupid get in the way because I was making such a fuss it made it worse and kill the atmosphere. I feel the actual nights, even though there were a few glitches on the nights it was such fun and the atmosphere really got all of us coming out of our shells on stage. I really felt that in the songs where I was lead I gave it my all, and even if I did look stupid I don’t regret any of the things I did on stage. I think I really came out of my shell for Promises all the energy I got from the crowd really helped and even though I was told I have to show what I was going to do on the night in rehearsal it really came together on the night. I think everyone did so well, everyone from what I saw was really enjoying themselves and I’m really proud of everyone.
